How to Get the Most Out of Your Tires

What Are Tires?

Everyone knows what tires are and what they do for a vehicle but how do they actually work?

Tires are designed to match the weight of a vehicle with the bearing strength of the surface that it rotates on.  Auto manufacturers work hand in hand with tire manufacturers to produce tires that will conform to the vehicles made.

Different Weather Conditions Require Different Tires

Tires for a car are like shoes for your feet.  You wouldn’t wear flip flops on a snowy Winter day nor should your car.  Always choose the best tires for your climate and current weather conditions.  This will ensure the proper handling and safety of your drive.

Regular Tire Rotations Maximize Tire Life

Proper rotation of tires is always recommended to maximize the longevity and performance.  The average speculation is a rotation at every 5000-8000km and this can be done sometimes for free at your scheduled oil change. ( you will need to tell your shop to do so). Regular tire rotation also helps to keep your manufacturer’s warranty in good standing.

Annual Tire Alignments Are a Must

You can have the most expensive tires on the market and they’ll be useless if you don’t do at least an annual tire alignment.  A misaligned car will wear out your brand new tires within months of driving from early side wall wear.  So make sure when you get new tires on to have your car alignment checked out.

Check Tire Pressure Often

Checking your tire pressure during a change of seasons is the best way to ensure it’s done regularly.  That can help you prevent damage from uneven wear.  Open your passenger side door and printed on the inside of the door there are the specs of your tires and the pressure they should be at.  Remember, during hot weather, the air in your tires will expand and during cold weather the air will shrink.

Go Easy on Your Brakes and Acceleration

Lastly, be gentle when driving your car.  Unless you’re an F1 driver with a pit crew to change your tires all the time, then we suggest go easy on your pedals; braking and accelerating. This will decrease the wear on your tires and increase their lifespan.

All these tips will definitely help your tires and your vehicle last longer and perform at it’s fullest potential.  Need more tips? Feel free to contact us at (236) 833-3872
